Wine Geeks Armonk
ARTISANAL WINE SHOP OPENING
IN RESTORED VINTAGE GAS STATION IN ARMONK

Grand Opening Weekend Slated for June 4 - June 7

May 13, 2009 - Armonk, NY – Wine Geeks Armonk announces its Grand Opening, an event scheduled for the entire weekend of June 4th through June 7th.  The business, owned and operated by husband and wife team, Derek and Carol Todd, is a service-oriented wine shop specializing in artisanal producers with an emphasis on organic and bio-dynamic vineyards. Situated in a vintage gas station at 559 Main Street that has been re-designed in a rustic-industrial style, Wine Geeks Armonk features a $15 and Under Table offering strong value on a wide variety of fine wines.

The proprietors, both coming originally from backgrounds in theatre, met 14 years ago when he directed her in a show in New York City.  Their shared passion for food and wine was instrumental in bringing them together. The couple has a combined 40+ years of experience working with fine wines in some of New York’s most celebrated restaurants. Westchester residents may know Derek Todd from his recent four-year tenure as the original Wine Director at three-star restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns on the Rockefeller Estate in Pocantico Hills. His wine list received two back to back “Best of Awards of Excellence” from Wine Spectator Magazine.  Carol Todd has balanced an acting career in regional theatre and film with extensive work in both service and management at critically acclaimed New York City eateries including Union Square Café, Follonico, Blue Hill NYC, the Harrison and Casellula Cheese and Wine Café.  She is currently a founding partner of Stir – A Production House, which is releasing her short film Showers of Happiness at festivals this fall.

New York artist Allen Stafford has been commissioned by Wine Geeks Armonk to create a large-scale artwork to be centrally displayed in the shop.  The piece will be an 18-foot triptych made entirely of recycled wine foils. Mr. Stafford’s previous work, ”Farm Glory” is currently on display at Casellula Cheese and Wine Café in New York City.

The four-day Grand Opening Event will include multiple wine tastings from a variety of winemakers, a 15% storewide discount* and the unveiling of Mr. Stafford’s new artwork. Store hours are 11am–8pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11am–9pm Thursdays through Saturdays and Noon-6pm on Sundays. Monthly tasting events and classes will be available on premise.
